ABOUT "EMPOWER"
EMPOWER was formed by a determined group of fitness professionals dedicated to keeping members of the Empire State Plaza workforce strong, healthy and confident all year long. As our name implies, our goal is to EMPOWER members to achieve their workout goals--whether that means getting stronger and healthier, maintaining current fitness levels, losing weight, or finding the right fitness path. We want to empower you to work hard, learn new things, and even have a little fun along the way!
Alana
Alana has been a fitness instructor for since 1997 and is certified as a Tabata Bootcamp Instructor, Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor. She enjoys helping others reach their fitness goals, gain confidence, and improve their overall wellness in a safe and fun manner. When not instructing, Alana is a student of Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do, works for NYS DOH, and enjoys spending time with her family.
Kelley
Kelley began her fitness career in 2003 as a Spinning Instructor, adding Group X Certification soon after in order to share her passion for high-intensity, strength-building workouts like Bootcamp, Tabata, and Body Sculpt. In "real life", Kelley is a web designer, mother of three awesome boys, proud Tee-ball coach and Cross-fit wanna-be.
Lois
Lois has been in the fitness industry for over 20 years and holds certifications in Personal Training, Group Exercise, Pilates, Tai Chi for Fitness, Sports/Exercise Nutrition, Weight Loss Nutrition and formal training in Kettlebells and Yoga. She enjoys teaching a wide variety of group exercise formats as well as working one-on-one with clients of all fitness levels to help them reach their goals. When she’s not at the gym, Lois enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Mark
Mark has been a Group X instructor for over 10 years. Although his favorite formats include Step and Hi/Lo, he also enjoys instructing Yoga and is beginning to explore workouts with kettlebells. Outside of the gym, Mark enjoys just about any activity that keeps him outside, including running, biking, hiking, skiing, swimming, and kayaking!
Connie
Connie has been a fitness instructor for 22 years and holds certifications in Yoga, Pilates, Spinning, Group X, Personal Training, and Cardio Kickboxing. She also has formal training in Kettlebells. Connie is on the Special Response team at work and also has Defensive Tactics Training through the FBI!
Kim
Kim started teaching Jacki Sorensen Strongstep back in the '90s. She is currently certified through the YMCA, where she taught step & sculpt and weight training classes for 17 years. Outside of her job as a writer/editor for the New York State Senate, Kim’s 9-year-old daughter, husband and two dogs keep her on the go!
Jackey
Jackey has been teaching group fitness classes for over 20 years and is currently certified as a Fitness Leader through the national YMCA. She was certified as a personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and has taught a variety of classes in strength training, flexibility and cardiovascular conditioning. Currently, she is teaching yoga inspired muscle conditioning.
Jackey is also a hiker and avid skier, on both snow and water, and tries to spend as much time on the water and in the mountains as possible.
Lori
Lori received her license to teach Zumba® in January 2013 and her certification to teach Bokwa® in July 2014. She currently teaches Zumba® classes at locations throughout the Capital District. Lori enjoys volunteering for charitable organizations and spending time with her family and friends.
Bridget
Bridget achieved her 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher certification in 2015. She is currently working to obtain an additional 200 hour certification in Baptiste Yoga. Bridget enjoys participating in a wide variety of fitness activities and finished her first half marathon in the Fall of 2015. When not teaching, Bridget can be found spending time at home with her husband and her fur-babies!
Elaine
Elaine has been teaching fitness classes all over the Capital Region since 1990, when she started teaching in law school. She has taught both high and low impact cardio classes, step, boxing, kickboxing, sculpt, weight training, and loves classes featuring plyometric movements. In addition to her career as a fitness instructor, Elaine is an attorney, mother of two, and a community volunteer.
Tim
Tim learned Tai Ji in China. He has more than 30 years of practice and over 15 years of teaching experience. The class is offered in a quiet environment with background music. Tim helps engage his students throughout class with verbal and visual cues.
